Day 5 of farmers’ daughters fast: 1 rushed to hosp in Puntambe

-

The daughters of farmers who have been protesting at Puntamba demanding rights, have lost over three kgs in four days. One of them, Shubhangi Jadhav’s health worsened on Thursday night. She was rushed to govt hospital in Ahmednagar. Though Shubhangi is undergoing treatment, she refused to withdraw her fast.

They have been demanding a better fair price for produce, loan waiver and `50 a litre for milk among others. District collector, tehsildar, sub-divisional officer and others went to persuade them to withdraw their fast on Thursday night. They observed the deterioration of Shubhangi’s health.

So far, the state government has turned a blind eye to the protest. The Kisan Kranti Sanghatana has begun a state-wide movement ‘Give us or leave us’, being their slogan. The farmers’ daughters have gone on to tell the state government, “If you can’t fulfil our demands, please come and toil for us.” The girls sought wages equal to grade four workers.
