Glaring error on IKEA world map: NZ missing
CANBERRA: Ikea has been mercilessly ridiculed for selling a map containing a very obvious mistake.
In a rather embarrassing gaffe for the Swedish furniture company, the $30 BJORKSTA world map fails to show New Zealand.
And, to exacerbate the mistake, the firm is in the midst of opening its first store in the country - having announced last month that Auckland would soon see the iconic yellow and blue building.
A photo of the map being sold in an Ikea store in Washington DC was posted to Reddit.
The caption read: 'Ikea's map game is not on point.' Understandably, the error has gone down badly with Kiwis, who feel their country is being ignored.
One person posted on Twitter: 'What’s the deal Ikea with forgetting an entire country off the world maps you are selling? New Zealand exists!'
Another wrote: 'Hopefully Ikea won’t be using their own map to find us when they open their first store in New Zealand'.
