A French journalist and editor of Elle magazine, Jean- Dominique Bauby, wrote the book The

Diving Bell and the Butterfly in 1995, using only his left eyelid! He was a victim of the ‘locked-in’ syndrome, a condition in which a patient is completely paralysed but is fully aware and awake. Jean-Dominique dictated his entire book by blinking his left eyelid! Sadly, Bauby died two days after the book was published in 1997.
