On-duty CISF constable shoots himself, dies

MUMBAI: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable shot himself to death while on duty on Saturday morning. The CISF constable, Bhanwarlal Nayak, was posted at the residence of activist Teesta Setalvad in Santacruz (W), used an AK-47 gun to shoot himself on the head, which killed him on the spot. Santacruz police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and investigat­ion is underway.

Nayak was posted at the Setalwad bungalow on Saturday. It was his first day at the job. Nayak's colleagues who were present at the time of the incident, rushed to the spot after they heard the gunshot. Nayak was rushed to the civic-run Cooper Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Dattatray Bhargude, Assistant Commission­er of Police (Santacruz division) said, “No suicide note has been recovered from him or the the spot. Police will be questionin­g Nayak's colleagues and batchmates, who could give us leads on why he took this extreme step.” –STAFF REPORTER
