MMRDA invites bids for Vasai-Bhayander bridge

- STAFF REPORTER

After repeated delays, which is in true style of Mumbai's civic and infrastructure projects, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has called for tenders for the design and construction of a bridge connecting Vasai and Bhayander creek.

The estimated cost in 2013 was Rs 300 crore and now the project cost is Rs 1081.60 crore. The interested bidders were asked to apply between September 11, 2018 and January 1, 2019. All the envelopes will be opened on January 16 and the tender will be awarded to the lowest bidder.

The new bridge will be approximately five kilometre long with three lanes on each side and will be constructed parallel to the existing western railway bridge between Naigaon and Bhayander. It will also have a 100 metres length of the cable-stayed bridge.

At present, the commuters have to take MumbaiAhmedabad Expressway to go to Bhayander from Vasai. With the new bridge, the motorists will travel a shorter distance. According to the project plan, the bridge will connect Subhash Chandra Chowk on the Bhayander side and will join the Contino Road on Naigaon side.
