Priyanka Gandhi seeks strict ac­tion

Con­gress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sun­day de­manded the BJP gov­ern­ments in Ut­tar Pradesh and Ut­tarak­hand en­sure strict pun­ish­ment to those re­spon­si­ble for the hooch tragedy and pro­vide ad­e­quate com­pen­sa­tion to the fam­i­lies of the de­ceased. Priyanka Gandhi, who took charge as AICC gen­eral sec­re­tary in-charge of Ut­tar Pradesh East last week, said it was unimag­in­able that the busi­ness of il­le­gal liquor was op­er­ated on such a large scale un­der the pa­tron­age of the Ut­tarak­hand and Ut­tar Pradesh gov­ern­ments. Death toll at 104:

The death toll in the twin hooch tragedies in Ut­tar Pradesh and neigh­bour­ing Ut­tarak­hand has in­creased to 104, with over 200 people ar­rested in a po­lice crack­down, of­fi­cials said on Sun­day. Fifty-four deaths were re­ported from Ut­tar Pradesh's Sa­ha­ran­pur dis­trict, while 18 people died dur­ing treat­ment at the Meerut Med­i­cal Col­lege. 215 ar­rested:

215 ar­rested: Nearly 215 people were ar­rested in a sweep­ing po­lice crack­down on il­licit liquor in Ut­tar Pradesh, of­fi­cials said.
