Youth arrested for stalking schoolgirl in Jogeshwari

Jogeshwari police arrested an automobile engineer for allegedly stalking a teenage schoolgirl for over a month and sending her messages on social networking websites.

When the girl’s father confronted the accused, Santosh Mishra (24), on Saturday, he got into a scuffle after which the victim’s father approached police.

According to police, Mishra had been stalking the teenage victim for over a month and the incident came to light on Saturday when she confided in her father of Mishra’s misbehaviour. The girl said Mishra had been following her when she would walk home from school and to the tuitions. On several occasions, Mishra also tried to get close to her and hold her hand, but the teenager saw Mishra and ran away.

However, Mishra crossed a line when he messaged her on Facebook and Instagram to befriend her.

Navinchandra Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 10) said, Mishra turned violent with the victim’s father and got into a scuffle on Saturday. The victim’s father, also a complainant, approached Jogeshwari police and registered a case against Mishra.

DCP Reddy said, “When the complainant asked Mishra to stay away from his daughter, he refused and pushed him to the ground. Mishra was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for stalking (section 354 d) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

The accused, Mishra was produced in a local magistrate court on Monday, he was granted bail.
