Cop held for taking bribe from transgende­r

MUMBAI: The Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths arrested an assistant inspector for allegedly accepting a bribe of `25,000 from a transgende­r. The accused, identified as Deepak Kharat, who is attached with Govandi police station, was arrested after he was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of the said amount. According to the ACB, the complainan­t’s relatives were arrested by the Govandi police for an assault case after which they were given bail by the court. In order to set them free from any further police action, the complainan­t requested Kharat to comply but instead he asked for bribe of `50,000 which was later negotiated to `25,000. After Kharat’s arrest, he was later booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
