Two nabbed for operating bogus insurance firm

Crime branch unit 3 raided a company, One Point Solutions General Insurance, in Lower Parel on Tuesday and seized 306 duplicate insurance policies of different companies pertaining to motor cycle insurance.

Acting on a complaint by a victim, police raided the insurance office and seized bogus policies of Bajaj Allied Insurance, General Insurance, Sri Ram General Insurance, Reliance General Insurance, ICICI Lombard Insurance Bharti Axa Redefining General Insurance among others. Police also seized duplicate stamps, papers and electronic gadgets.

Police arrested the accused for conducting illegal business and a case was filed under the IPC sections for cheating and dishonesty including of property (420), forgery (465), forgery of valuable securities (467), forgery of valuable security will (468), using as genuine a forged document (471), making or possessing counterfei­t seal (473), criminal conspiracy (120).

Further inquiries revealed the CEO and the general manager of the fake firm were operating from Belgaum in Karnataka and were based there. After the raid in Mumbai, a police team was sent to Belgaum to gather more evidence. Two more arrests were made in Belgaum. Gajanand Kedari Patil (28) was arrested in Mumbai and Prashant Bharmu Sutar, (25) the CEO and Inayat Gani Bedekar, (31) the manager were arrested from Belgaum.

According to a statement, the accused obtained informatio­n on those specific vehicle owners whose insurance was expiring and then contacted these people by giving them door-to-door service. The initial probe suggested the gang sold over 800 bogus policies to the twowheeler­s owners in the city.
