Thanks to crusaders, citizens get their playground
BHAYANDAR: Hours after they launched an agitation in the form of a cyclic hunger strike to save dwindling open spaces in the twin-city, the young crusaders- Pradeep Jangam and Krishna Gupta got a huge shot in the arm, as a playground in Mira Road was reluctantly thrown open for citizens by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) on Thursday. Alleging laxity on the part of the civic administration and the ruling governance towards acquiring open spaces reserved in the Development Plan, the crusaders have sought a clarity on the status of 110 plots which have been tagged for playgrounds across the twin-city. “It was high time the MBMC maintained and displayed a proper record of all open spaces in the twin-city along with their locations and status. The more people get involved, the more pressure there will be on the authorities to protect open spaces. Furthermore, even acquired plots aren’t properly cared for.” said Jangam. The civic administration claimed that the reserved plots which have been acquired will be utilized in a phase-wise manner.
