Quizzed by cops, teen hangs self

A depressed 18-year-old girl is suspected to have hanged herself on Thursday in Vikhroli (W) after being called repeatedly by the Bhandup police for recording her statement in connection with her boyfriend’s suicide in December.

Her boyfriend had killed himself after they had an argument on phone and messages, said police. The girl had not left a suicide note. Parksite Police have registered an Accidental Death Report in the matter.

The girl, a first-year arts student, used to live in a chawl near Vitthal Mandir with her father and her elder sister. She was reportedly depressed after her boyfriend committed suicide in December, who too had hanged himself at his residence in Bhandup (W). Since then, the girl had been called to Bhandup police station seven times and this caused her to become emotionall­y unstable, the police said. Ramesh Kade, a senior police inspector of Bhandup police station, defended their calling her frequently and claimed that they had a few leads.
