Cong holds Corbett mirror to Modi

- TRIPTI NATH

The Congress on Thursday ripped through Modi's done-todeath hyper nationalistic narrative by questioning his film ‘shoot’ in Nainital's Corbett National Park for almost four hours after news of the February 14 Pulwama attack broke.

Addressing a media conference, Congress Communication head Randeep Singh Surjewala accused PM Modi of failing to follow his Raj Dharma and choosing instead to do an ad film for Discovery Channel.

He was posing with the Discovery Channel crew, enjoying tea and snacks and looking at crocodiles in the Corbett National Park when news of the Pulwama attack came. "In 56 months of Modi rule, 488 soldiers have been martyred in Jammu and Kashmir alone. Why has the Modi government failed to check firing 5595 times by Pakistan on our international border/LoC? Why did terrorist acts not stop post demonetization, as claimed by Modi ji?"

The Congress had a list of questions. It asked why the Prime Minister, the National Security Adviser and Home Minister did not take responsibility for the intelligence failure in Pulwama.

"How did the local terrorists get RDX, rocket launchers, etcetera? Why did they ignore the threat issued by JeM in a video 48 hours before the attack? Why did they ignore the J&K police inputs of

February 8 on the use of IED by terrorists and need for proper san itiza ti on ?’’" The truth is that the government is neither giving any political answers to the Pulwama attack, nor accepting its responsibilities. While the nation is still in mourning, an insensitive Modi has gone on a 2-day trip to South Korea, revealing his wrong priorities," Surjewala said.

The Congress and the entire nation want to give a befitting reply to Pakistan but unfortunately for PM Modi, the lust for power is bigger than the dignity of our soldiers and martyrs, he pointed out. Modi continued to be in Corbett till 6.45 pm that day and did not care to announce a national mourning. As if this were not enough, on February 16, the Prime Minister reached Delhi airport one hour late, where he was to pay tribute to the martyrs, because he was busy electioneering in Jhansi. The party also released pictures of Modi in Corbett, the day terror struck Pulwama. The latest row came on the heels of the much frowned visit of the Saudi Crown Prince, who is considered more loyal to Pakistan. Flagging advertisements by the BJP seeking votes in the name of terrorism, the Congress said, "The BJP was seeking votes in the name of terrorism after the Mumbai terror attack in 2008. Modi continued seeking votes till 2014, in the name of terrorism."
