DCW writes to Delhi Police, Bar Council; SC pulls up both

- NIMISH KUMAR

National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo-moto cognizance of the video showing DCP Monika Bhardwaj & other police personnel being chased out of Tis Hazari court premises. NCW has written to Bar Council & Delhi Police Commissioner.

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote to top bosses of both of the side and asked for explanation on that event, in which a woman Indian Police Officer (IPS) was chased out by lawyers and others were thrashed, when the lady IPS official, Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), went to Delhi local court to talk to the lawyers who were on rampage.

On the other hand, Supreme Court showed it unhappiness over Delhi police-lawyers clash incident and holds responsible both the sides for Tiz Hazari violence. The SC disagreed with the contention of the lawyers that the police had committed atrocities against them.

“There were problems from both sides. Nobody claps with one hand,” a bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph said NCW Chairperson wrote to Bar Council of India (BCI) president to take strong action against erring advocates involved in this incident. In her letter she referred to media reports, an audio clip of PSO and a 1.40 minutes of video footage as evidence. It happened after a new CCTV footage surfaced, in which DCP (North) Monika Bhardwaj was seen pleading lawyers to stop violence, but lawyers in form of a mob attacked the woman IPS officer and her staff and chased them out of the Tiz Hazari Court.

Delhi Police administration already taken the report on this whole issue and additional legal sections would be added in the already registered FIR, informed Delhi Police spokesperson.
