PUNJAB SET TO WITNESS HISTORY
This historic town in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, bordering Pakistan, will witness history being made on Saturday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi opens the Kartarpur Corridor and flags off the first lot of pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The first-of its-kind occasion in 72 years is to mark the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev that falls on November 12.
A Congress delegation led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be visiting Kartarpur Sahib on Saturday after Modi inaugurates the Integrated Check Post of the Kartarpur Corridor.
Prior to this, Prime Minister Modi will pay obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurdwara at
Sultanpur Lodhi town.
Apart from Manmohan Singh, the delegation will consist of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and senior leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia, R.P.N Singh, Randeep Surjewala, Deepender Hooda and Jitin Prasada, besides all state legislators and Members of Parliament from Punjab. Addressing a special Punjab Assembly session, chaired by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, this week, an optimistic Manmohan Singh said the Kartarpur model would help resolving future conflicts between the two neighbours.
Noting that the current generation is blessed to be celebrating the momentous occasion of the 550th Prakash Purb during their lifetime, Amarinder Singh has called on all to imbibe the values of compassion and love from the first Sikh Guru’s teachings.
