Ask God about Nilekani's comment: Ajay T yagi

The chairman of Info sys Ltd may have avie won the integrity of the company' s financial statements but the regulator will look at the issue independen­tly, A jay Tyagi, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India said today.

Tyagi's comment comes in the backdrop of a whistleb lower complaint with the US market regulator that alleged dodgy accounting practices by Info sys and its top officials. Addressing an analysts' conference call Wednesday, Chairman Nandan Nil ekani had said: "Even God cannot change numbers of this company."

"Ask him or ask God ... invest or scan draw their own conclusion­s. Whatever we have to do , we ar e doing, and whatever is the outcome you will know ," T yagi said on the sidelines of the Confederat­ion of Indian Industry' s Financial Markets Summit 2019.

SEBI has s ought some informatio­n fr om Inf osys on the whistleblo­wer complaint, Tyagi said.

Asked whether US SEC had sought details fr om SEBI on the issue, Tyagi said, "that is confidenti­al".

The informatio­n technology major had earlier said it has mandated its internal auditor, EY , to review the processes in the bac kdrop of the allegation­s. The company has also appointed law f ir m Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas &; Co to inde pendently probe the matter.

Media reports a lso said the company has a ppointed Pricewater­house-Coopers to review the r evenue recognitio­n practices a ssociated with large deals.

At present, Sebi is pr obing the alle gations and in vestigatin­g the build-up of derivative­s po sitions in the company's stoc k before the whistleblo­wer complaint was re vealed.
