A man accused of a double murder was shot dead inside a courtroom in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor on Tuesday as court proceedings were on. Over 25 rounds were fired by the three men who carried pistols in the courtroom, which killed one accused Shanawaz Ansari, while another accused -Jabbar- has fled away.

A policeman and a court employee, who brought both the accused from Tihar Jail to produce them before the chief judicial magistrate, have been injured in the firing. It was so sudden and scary that even the judge took refuge under the desk and other court staff laid on floor to save themselves, sources said.

A lawyer who was present in the court premises says, “Soon after the fire, cops surrounded the courtroom and brought out the prisoner's body in a gunny bag. The three men who carried pistols in the courtroom and shot Ansari were chased and arrested by policemen present inside the court.”

Shahnawaz Ansari was accused in the double murder of Bahujan Samaj Party politician Haji Ahsan Khan and his nephew in May this year allegedly due to a business rivalry. Police sources said that Ansari and Jabbar are close to don Mukhtar

Ansari, who is currently lodged in jail at Punjab. They murdered Haji Ahsan Khan to establish themselves as “Bahubali” and then contest elections.

The incident prompted Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav to attack the government. "The daylight murder of an accused in front of a judge in Bijnor shows how much impact 'encounter wali sarkar' has on criminals," Yadav tweeted in Hindi.
