DIRTY TRICKS: Bol Bachchans dupe man of gold worth `84,000

- —Suresh Golani

BHAYANDAR: People chewing and spitting pan masala or gutkha is a common sight on the roads of the twin-city. However, the bad habit of dirtying the roads cost a 37-year-old man his gold jewellery worth Rs84,000 as members of the notorious “bol bachchan” (glib-talkers) gangs are modifying themselves to devise novel ideas and different ways to dupe gullible people. After the routine modus operandi used to relieve senior citizens, especially women, of ornaments with threats of a killer roaming free in the area, the fraudsters are now posing as the henchmen of local goons to target paan (betel leaf) chewing people in the twin-city. In his police complaint, the victim, who lives in Nalasopara and works at a private finance company in Borivli, stated he was on his way to the Mira Road railway station when two persons accosted him near Shanti Shoping Centre. The complainant claimed the duo told him that he had invited the ire of their master by soiling his sister’s clothes with pan stains and that he should apologise to escape his wrath. He was forcefully escorted to a building in Geeta Nagar in an auto-rickshaw. The duo convinced the complainant to remove the gold chains and ring. When the complainant complied, the encounter ended in his getting cheated of the gold jewellery as the duo fled the crime scene one after the other. A case under Section 420, IPC was registered against the unidentified duo. An investigating team from the Naya Nagar police station was in process to procure the footages captured by CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity at the spot and possible getaway routes used by the culprits.
