Meghalaya awaits Shah appointment to discuss ILP
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is likely to visit New Delhi next week to get an appointment with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss about the proposal to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
A high-level team comprising representatives from almost all the political parties, NGOs, civil society members are waiting for a long time to get an appointment with the Union Home Minister to discuss about the important issue for the state.
However, delay in getting the much-needed appointment has created confusion among majority of the group members. Local NGO members have already raised the question as why the home minister is making them wait for a long time. Earlier, they were assured to get the appointment by end of the New Year, then it was shifter to after Republic Day. Ultimate, few weeks back, they were assured by the authorities concerned to get the appointment once the Delhi elections are over.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said, “Last time when Meghalaya Chief Minister met Union Home Minister, he was assured by the Centre that Amit Shahji will meet the state delegation once the Delhi poll is over. Hopefully, we will get the appointment this time.”
Meanwhile, Tynsong has requested the NGO and civil society members to maintain some patient because every effort is being made by the state government to implement ILP in state. “This is why the state Assembly on December 19 unanimously passed a resolution to implement ILP in the state,” Tynsong added.
