Bihar, Assam rivers still in full spate
The flood situation in both Assam and Bihar continued to be grim as major rivers in both states overflowing and affecting lakhs of people. While Assam reported 103 deaths, Bihar's toll reached eight on Tuesday with over 56 lakh and 25 lakh affected respectively.
Torrential rain in the catchment areas of Bihar and Nepal has aggravated the flood situation in the state with almost all major rivers flowing above the danger mark.
The NDRF and SDRF teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations round the clock. Some 1,67,005 people have been evacuated. However, eight persons have died due to floods, including four each in Darbhanga and West Champaran.
A report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated: "So far, a total of 30 districts have been affected in the state and 129 revenue circles have been affected. 56,71,018 people from 5,305 villages have felt the direct impact of the floods. A total of 103 people have lost their lives to the floods," the ASDMA report said.
2 killed in north Bengal However, Incessant rains in the Dooars region of north Bengal cut off direct road connectivity with Siliguri as a bridge on the arterial National Highway 31 was damaged, leading to an accident that killed two persons, officials said on Tuesday.
Delhi to get rains
The weatherman has forecast moderate to heavy rains for Wednesday and Thursday.
The Safdarjung Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
