SC adjourns Sudarshan TV case to October 26

- OUR BUREAU/ New Delhi

The SC on Monday adjourned to October 26 the hearing in the case against Sudarshan TV Hindi news channel while extending stay on its programme ‘UPSC Jehad’ on the govt’s plea to put it off to let it complete the process at its end as one more show cause notice has been issued to the only earlier in the day to give it one more chance and the hearing would take place on Tuesday.

The notice has been issued on the recommendations of the interministerial committee and as such the "competent authority of the Central Government, is therefore, duty-bound to give one more opportunity to Sudarshan TV news channel, to make its representation." It says this is a final opportunity to the channel before the government passes an order under sub-section 3 of Section 20 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Ac, 1995.

The letter seeking adjournment was circulated by the govt on Sunday and the Bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee allowed it to let the govt complete the process.
