RaGa takes to driver’s seat during his tractor rally

-

The Haryana police stopped the entry of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's farmers' rally against the farm laws on Tuesday at the Punjab border, but gave up after he threatened to stay put peacefully with the tractor he was driving for any number of hours. He was in the last leg of his 3-day "Kheti Bachao Yatra" that began on Sunday.

"They have stopped us on a bridge on the Haryana border. I am not moving and am happy to wait here. 1 hour, 5 hours, 24 hours, 100 hours, 1,000 hours or 5,000 hours," Rahul tweeted. He told the accompanying reporters: "When they open the border, I will peacefully proceed. Until then I will peacefully wait here."

The police, however, did not want the highway blocked and hence it allowed three tractors with trolleys to enter Haryana, saying they were allowing 100 people to enter as the gathering of more was not permitted in view of the Home Ministry's restrictions due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Rahul was scheduled to address two rallies in Haryana at Pehowa and Pipli in Kurukshetra district.

After winding up his last rally at Sanaur in Patiala of Punjab, Rahul drove a tractor himself, flanked by Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar and former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat sitting on the cushioned seats.

He told reporters in Sanaur that his tractor rally is to protest against the new laws brought by the Modi government that will leave the farmers at the mercy of the corporates and moneyed people, depriving them of a fair deal for their produce.
