Lowest Covid cases in 40 days

India on Tuesday recorded the lowest Coronaviru­s infections of 61,267 in the past 40 days while the case load on the hospitals also dropped by the highest number of 15,404 patients in a day, a little better than 15,064 last Tuesday.

The Covid-19 deaths were also the lowest in a week at 884, giving the death rate of 1.55% and the recovery rate going up to 84.70% with 75,787 discharged from the hospitals since Monday. India's death rate is now 75 per million population and it is still 10 lakh less than the highest infection of 76.80 lakh in the United States.

There are still 9.19 lakh patients under treatment in the hospitals across the country as against the total infection of 66.85 lakh, 56.62 lakh of whom have recovered while the cumulative death toll is now 1,03,569. As many as 10.89 lakh were tested in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of persons tested so far to 8.107 crore.

The daily death rate has come down in Maharashtr­a as the Health Ministry recorded it at 263.

K’taka adds 10K cases

Karnataka recorded 9,993 new Covid-19 cases Tuesday and is number two across the country in the active cases which stood at an alarming 1,15,151. The total case burden went up to touch over 6,57 lakh.

The state also recorded 91 deaths, taking the toll to 9461.

There is no sign of the Covid graph dipping in Bengaluru which continued to contribute half the number of Covid cases of the State. On Tuesday, the city recorded a whopping 5012 new Covid positive cases and 34 deaths, taking the toll to 3135.

Meanwhile, Karnataka has made Covid test mandatory at all tourist locations across the state.

No evidence 'kadha' damages liver: AYUSH ministry

The AYUSH ministry on Tuesday dismissed claims that prolonged consumptio­n of 'kadha', recommende­d as a preventive health measure for boosting immunity amid

the COVID-19 pandemic, damages the liver, saying it is a "wrong notion" as ingredient­s used for preparing it are used in cooking at home.

Speaking at a press briefing, secretary, AYUSH Ministry, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said ingredient­s like cinnamon, basil and black pepper used for preparing the 'kadha' have a positive effect on the respirator­y system.

The Ministry of AYUSH had in March issued some

self-care guidelines as preventive health measures for boosting immunity with special reference to respirator­y health amidst the coronaviru­s outbreak.

Chautala positive

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday announced he has tested positive for coronaviru­s. Announcing his infection on Twitter, he said that he was asymptomat­ic.
