Pacifist's stern choice

NEW DELHI, DEC 30: The greatest pacifist in this centur y, Mahatma Gandhi, had advised nation's to prefer war rather than succumbing to cowardice and evil.
Addressing a meeting of the National Institute of Sciences here, Prime Minister Nehru said that Gandhi ji had advised against surrender to bevil. If there was no other alternative, he advised him to "take out the sword and use it".
In a reminiscent mood, he (Shri Nehru) said that Gandhi ji was the greatest pacifist he had ever seen. Yet he had advised stern action.
He added: We are facing a great crisis. We will win ultimately."
