The COVID vaccination started at four centres under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and two centres under the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction on Saturday. On day one a total of 600 health workers were administered the vaccine. Civic chief Abhijit Bangar visited at two centres to take stock of the preparation in the morning. While interacting with the media Bangar said it is a proud moment as well as a matter of great relief for us that the COVID 19 vaccination is being launched across the country today. “We are grateful to all the medical officers and health workers who fought for more than 10 months and to the scientists who worked tirelessly to find the vaccine,” expressed Bangar. However, he added that the vaccination does not mean that COVID will not exist. “Even after the vaccination, we will have to follow the COVID norms like social distancing, wearing masks and cleaning hands,” said Bangar.

Under the NMMC jurisdiction, four centres set up for vaccination are at civic hospital Vashi and Airoli, D Y Patil Hospital in Nerul and Apollo Hospital in Belapur. Similarly, under the PMC, the two centres for vaccination are MGM Hospital in Kamothe and YMT Hospital in Kharghar.
