94-year-old doc among 12,258 vaccinated in Raj

On the first day of the immunisati­on on Saturday, 12,258 people got the shot in Rajasthan as against 16,613. As many as 21 beneficiar­ies experience­d minor adverse effects.

As per the health dept report, all the planned 167 sessions were held in the state. However, the target of immunising 16,613 persons was not achieved as only 12,258 persons received the jab.

Health officials said the target could not be met as some beneficiar­ies did not turn up due to different reasons.

The state’s vaccinatio­n drive was launched by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at noon after the PM inaugurate­d the rollout of the world’s largest immunisati­on exercise in the morning. The Principal of SMS Medical College, Dr Sudhir Bhandari, received the first jab.

Chhattisga­rh health minister TS Singh Deo actively participat­ed and monitored the vaccinatio­n drive in the state on Saturday. Interactin­g with the media, TS said, “We have the weapon against coronaviru­s and now with complete precaution we will end the pandemic.”

“The vaccine is completely safe and it has been certified by scientists. No one should hesitate in getting it,” he added.
