TMC is vax thieves: BJP

ARITRA SINGHA / KOLKATA: The BJP leadership on Sunday termed the ruling Trinamool Congress as ‘vaccine thieves’. It comes after a day when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged the BJP-led government at the Centre had sent fewer vaccine vials to West Bengal.

BJP central leader and West Bengal observer Kailash Vijayvargiya said after several scams, now the ruling Trinamool Congress is trying to steal Covid-19 vaccines.

“Corruption and cut money is almost synonymous to the Trinamool Congress. Where on one side PM Modi is trying to safeguard the frontline health workers by providing the vaccines, TMC MLAs were seen taking the shots though they were not allotted to do so. The vaccines are being looted. It proves the integrity of the ruling TMC,” claimed Vijayvargiya. Countering his claim, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) mayor, Firhad Hakim alleged the TMC leaders who were vaccinated will be taken care of and also accused BJP’s unnecessary intervention in the state just to be in the limelight.

Notably, TMC MLA Rabindranath Chatterjee was seen receiving a vaccine shot. When questioned, Chatterjee said he is the chairperson of the patient welfare association and is entitled to get vaccinated on the first day.

TMC MLA of East Burdwan Subhash Mondal also got the first shot. Later, former TMC MLA Banamali Hazra, Zilla Parishad Karmadakshya Jahar Bagdi and Bhatar Panchayat Samity Public Health in charge Mahendra Hazra also received the vaccine.

Slamming Mamata over her comments of ‘fewer vials in West Bengal’, union minister Babul Supriyo stated everyone in the ruling Trinamool Congress is selfish.
