GANGTOK, JAN. 2: China is faced with open revolt in Sinkiang, it is learnt here. The revolt had started in the middle of November last. The circumstances, arising out of the revolt, have compelled China to cease fire on the border unilaterally, it is interpreted here. According to reports, the revolt started in the Kazak and Altai regions of Sinkiang and then spread among Kirghiz, Uighur, Tatar and Tadjiks.
Russian weapons were reported to have been used by both the sides.
The rebels are believed to have succeeded in cutting supply lines and inflicting heavy casualties on the Chinese.
The people, mostly Muslims, are believed to have revolted against the repression by the Chinese.
