Long-term solutions called for
Ref.: ‘Bhandara blaze: Finally, suspensions, sackings’ (January 22). Will it serve the purpose? The tragedy showcased the negligence and the poorquality medical apparatus present in the district hospital. Suspensions and sackings may shut the mouths of people but what is required is a sincere approach to run the hospital for the benefit of the poor and give them good medical facilities. Generally, medical apparatus bought in government hospitals go through the tendering process, where the cheapest goods are bought, without looking into the technical aspects. Even the incubators at the Bhandara district hospital were faulty. This lackadaisical attitude needs to change.
