Mother may meet Kappan in UP jail on video call
NEW DELHI: The SC on Friday allowed 90-year-old bedridden mother of Delhibased Malayalam journalist Siddique Kappan to see and talk to him through video call. He is languishing in a Uttar Pradesh jail since after arrest on October 5 while proceeding to Hathras to report the brutal gang-rape and murder of a Dalit girl.
When a Bench headed by CJI SA Bobde showed inclination to allow her, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta urged the court to leave it up to Uttar Pradesh, assuring the government will take care of the matter.
The Bench, also comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, accordingly adjourned the case to March 9. The UP Government had also moved an application for a short adjournment of a week.
