Mateta joins Crystal Palace on loan LONDON: AFI urges for greater show in district meets

Crystal Palace on Thursday signed forward JeanPhilippe Mateta on an 18-month loan deal from Bundesliga side Mainz with an option to make the move permanent. The 23-yearold Paris-born has been impressing for the German side Mainz with 10 goals in 17 appearances this season. "I'm very happy to come to Crystal Palace and I look forward to training. Playing in the Premier League was my dream when I was a child. Now I can play, I will show the fans of Crystal Palace what I can do," Mateta said in a statement.

NEW DELHI: Athletics Federation of India is organising a certification course for over 2,100 District Technical Officials in a bid to improve the technical conduct of track and field sport at the grassroots level. AFI aims to have 10,000 such district technical officials across the country in the next five years and in the next fortnight, 2164 candidates will undergo the district technical officials' course, AFI said in a release.
