BJP leader shot by college head

Afzal Hashmi, state spokesman of BJP, was shot in the premises of JRS College at Jamal, 200 km east of Patna on Wednesday morning. Police have arrested college principal Lallan Prasad Singh on the basis of a statement given by the BJP leader.

Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, district SP of Munger, said the BJP leader who is also a teacher in the college, had gone for classes at 11.15 am. As he came out of his car, three miscreants fired three bullets, two of which hit the professor.

According to Dhillon, Hashmi was rushed to Sadar Hospital by the driver of his vehicle. It has been alleged that there has been a dispute between the principal and Hashmi which had turned violent on Monday when Singh threatened Hashmi with dire consequenc­es. The issue was of taking over charge from the acting principal, according to the SP.

Af ter preliminar­y treatment, Shamsi was rushed to Patna where he was admitted in a private hospital on Bailey Road.
