There was a minor IED blast near the Israeli embassy in the heart of south Delhi on Friday evening; no one was injured and only some cars were damaged but the optics of such an incident is such that the entire area was cordoned off, additional forces were deployed and a team of the National Investigation Agency was at the spot to investigate the matter. Sources told India Today TV that the police had recovered an envelope -- which merely said -"To Israel Embassy Ambassador" -- near the blast spot.

Delhi Police Additional PRO Anil Mittal said initial impressions suggest that it could be a mischievous attempt to create a sensation. The blast took place just when President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and PM Modi were present a few kilometres away at the Beating Retreat ceremony at the culmination of the Republic Day celebrations.
