TMC's water tax collection rises

THANE: Amid the pandemic, the Thane Municipal Corporatio­n (TMC) has seen a rise in the water tax recover y, compared to that of last year. The TMC has been facing financial crunch due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however this year the civic body has collected maximum amount in water tax compared to last year. "In the first three to four months, we witnessed huge losses as the lockdown badly hit the income sources of TMC. However, af ter the unlock phase from July, the tax collection process improved," said an official from TMC.

"Since July, 2020, the TMC has recovered Rs100 crore in water tax, which is Rs 6 lakh more compare to last year," added the official.

According to the civic official, till November, 2020, the TMC had recovered around Rs 60 crore of water tax. Besides, a special drive was led to recover y of the pending dues of the tax by taking action against the defaulters.
