WR kick starts chikoo traffic after 15 years with 1st Kisan Rail Special Train from Mumbai Central Division Central Railway carries out maintenanc­e works amid mega block on January 24

Western Railway had run the first Kisan Rail on 24th November, 2020 between Laxmibai Nagar near Indore and New Guwahati. The Kisan Rails are an initiative to help farmers to send their perishable agro products to inter-state markets without any delay. Mumbai Central Division made a debut of its first Kisan Rail on 28th Januar y, 2021 from Dahanu Road station to Adarsh Nagar station in Delhi, by kick starting chikoo traffic af ter 15 years. According to Sumit ThakurChie­f Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, Kisan Rail helps in transporti­ng agricultur­al produce, especially perishable commoditie­s, at cheaper rates and aid farmers in getting the right price for their crops. Af ter a gap of 15 years the traffic for Chikoo was kick started by Mumbai Central Division and rake was loaded with chikoos at Dahanu Rd, Udvada and Amalsad stations.

Central Railway Mumbai Division carried out maintenanc­e work during mega block on main line between Matunga-Mulund Up and Dn fast lines & on harbour line between Thane-Vashi/Nerul Up&Dn harbour lines on Januar y 24, 2021. Rail renewal of 26 meters and 7 weldings, replacemen­t of rails, 30 Turn out sleepers, 1 set of SEJ sleepers, 2 km tamping work done with Duomatic machine, besides boxing and ballasting work for 400 meters, alignment and removal of vegetation along the tracks were also undertaken on the both sections along with work of cleaning of 300 meters of centre drain. Annual overhaulin­g and close inspection of 1.2 km OHE, 8 cross feeders, 4 switches and 4 overlaps were done along with re-tension of contact wires, replacemen­t of 315 meters contact wires, flash insulators, 22 droppers, 32 C-jumpers and removal of 42 excess C-jumpers.
