Alert cyber cops prevent Rs 10.71L fraud

- STAFF REPORTER/

The cyber wing of the city police has prevented a person's Rs 10.71 lakh from being siphoned off by cyber fraudsters recently. As soon as the fraud came to their notice the cyber police swung into action and froze the bank accounts in which the money have been transferred. Last year, the cyber wing prevented around Rs 15 crore from being siphoned off similarly. According to the police, Manoj Shah, a resident of Wadala, fell for cyber fraud when the fraudsters swindled Rs 12.70 lakh from his account on Thursday. Shaha received some fraudulent emails and later the money was transferred from his account fraudulently, said police.

As soon as the money was transferred to unknown accounts, Shaha did not waste a single minute and approached the Cyber police station at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The police officers there swung into action and froze the account within 2.5 hours of transfer in which the money had been transferred.

In such cases, time is precious, if the victim approaches the cyber wing with two hours with all his necessary banking details there is always a chance to save and recover most of the money, said police.

In 2020 the cyber wing has similarly prevented around Rs 15 crore from being siphoned off. Whenever victims approaches within the first two hours which is called the golden hour there is always a chance to freeze the accounts and stop the further transaction. However, the officers should be well aware of the procedure as well, said the police.
