CONDEMING THE ACT, says Bangladesh

Bangladesh on Monday condemned the military coup in Myanmar, where prominent civilian leaders were detained.An official statement issued by the Ministr y of Foreign Affairs stated, “Bangladesh firmly adheres to and promotes democratic ethos. We hope that the democratic process and constituti­onal arrangemen­ts will be upheld in Myanmar. As an immediate and friendly neighbour, we would like to see peace and stability in Myanmar.” Earlier, the Myanmar militar y declared a state of emergency in the countr y for one year, following the coup, where Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other senior officials have been detained by the militar y. Japan expresses ‘serious concern’ about Myanmar Naypyitaw (Myanmar), Feb 1 (AP) Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi expressed “serious concern” about developmen­ts in Myanmar and called for the release of leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

China on Monday reacted guardedly to the militar y coup in neighbouri­ng Myanmar ousting de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and members of her governing party, calling on all to properly handle their difference­s under the constituti­onal and legal framework and uphold political stability in the countr y.
