China protests on 'seizure of funds' by India
TOK YO, JAN. 12 (AP) -- Communist China today lodged a protest with the Indian Government against what it called "the forcible takeover" of funds belonging to Chinese Embassies and ConsulatesGeneral in India and Nepal, the China News Agency said.
In a broadcast monitored here NCNA said the Indian Government "took over the funds which the Chinese Embassies in India and Nepal and the former Chinese Consulates-General in Calcutta and Bombay had deposited in the Bank of China for diplomatic expenses."
The funds were kept "as long as 50 days and more, despite the many representations made by the Chinese Embassy in India... and it was not until December 22, 1962, that the sum of funds was returned," NCNA quoted the Chinese Foreign Ministr y as saying in a Note delivered to the Indian Embassy in Peking today. ...
The Note said the funds were taken over when the Indian Government" unwarrantedly closed down and forcibly took over the Bombay agency of the Bank of China on November 2 and 3, 1962."
