THE ancient Greek philosopher Socrates was one day talking to a group of young men when his wife began to scold him for having neglected some small household chore.

Socrates tried to pacify her but it only made matters worse. She began shouting at the top of her voice and when her husband waved her to go away, she got so angry that she picked up a pitcher of water and emptied it on him.

His young guests were too shocked for words but not Socrates.

Remarked the soggy philosopher: “After the thunder comes the rain.”
