‘Rock of Gibraltar’
The sterling performances with the willow by the captain of the visiting English team, Joe Root, are reminiscent of similar feats by Ken Barrington during the 1961-62 Test series for the Ted Dexter-led England XI in India and Pakistan. The solid middle-order batsman, now no more, was nicknamed ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ for his superb batting performances, in which he scored a number of centuries; many of them unbeaten, in Tests, as well as in regional fixtures.
