Tribal woman commits suicide in Thane over domestic row

THANE: A 19-year-old tribal woman has allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison near a brick kiln in Thane district af ter a domestic dispute, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Friday at Vasargaon in Ambernath township, they said. The couple used to be frequent quarrels over the issue, the official said. On Friday, the woman allegedly consumed poison at their home near the brick kiln. She was rushed to a hospital where she died the same day during treatment, he said.

Man held for running sex racket in Thane

THANE: Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly running a flesh trade racket in Thane city of Maharashtra, an official said. The man was intercepted on a road in Talaopali area on Friday while he was accompanied by two women, whom he had allegedly been forcing into prostitution, the official from the police's anti-human trafficking cell said on Saturday. The accused, identified as Shivakant Ramesh Singh, was subsequently arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the police added.

Man found murdered in Palghar

A 27-year-old man from Palghar district has been allegedly killed by unidentified persons, police said on Sunday. The man used to have frequent quarrels with his wife as he doubted her character, an official from Wada police station said. The couple again had a fight on Friday night following which the man, in a fit of anger, lef t his house located in Tumdipada hamlet under Wada taluka. On Saturday morning, his body having stab wounds was found in a thatched house in the hamlet, the official said. A hunt is on for the killers, the official said.
