STF jawan dies in IED blast in Bijapur

A jawan of Chhattisga­rh Special Task Force (STF) was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast planted by Naxals in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district on Sunday. A group of STF jawans were on an area domination exercise from Tarrem police station limits on Sunday morning. In a forested patch under Tarrem police station about 430 km south of state capital Raipur the incident happened, Kamlochan Kashyap, Superinten­dent of Police (SP) Bijapur said. Mohan Nag, a STF jawan, unknowingl­y stepped over an IED planted by Maoists in the jungle, accidental­ly it went off and the blast occurred, the SP said. Both his legs were seriously damaged in the blast. He was rushed to CRPF field hospital in the district and while preparatio­ns were on to airlif t the injured constable to Raipur, he succumbed to his injuries, the senior officer narrated.
