President’s rule in UP: PIL dismissed

- OUR BUREAU/ NEW DELHI:

The SC on Monday junked a PIL for a direction to the Centre to impose the President’s rule in UP under Article 356 of the Constitution as a crime state with the “worst crime record”, rising crime rate and breakdown of the constitutional machinery.

A Bench headed by CJI SA Bobde pulled up petitionerin-person advocate Jaya Sukin, asking him to produce research to show how many states’ crime records have been studied by him. A Bench, also comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, warned to impose heavy cost on him for the nature of the plea if continues to argue non-stop.
