Dead Navy man cremated at Palamu

The 26-year-old Navyman, Suraj Kumar Dubey, declared dead at INHS, Naval hospital Aswini in Mumbai on Saturday, was cremated with military honours at his Chainpur village in Palamu on Monday.

Earlier, his body was brought to Ranchi airport from Mumbai, where officers and jawans of the Army laid floral wreaths and later the body was sent to his ancestral house by road.

A large number of people, including public health engineerin­g dept minister Mithilesh Thakur, local MLAs Bhanu Pratap Shahi and Alok Chaurasiya attended the funeral. A candleligh­t procession was organised from Redma Chauk to Police stadium. Participan­ts demanded a CBI probe into the kidnapping and murder of the Navyman.

BJP MP from Palamu and former DGP Jharkhand Vishnu Dayal Ram said he has written a letter to the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking a CBI probe as Dubey was abducted by armed men at Chennai airport, kept in Chennai for 3 days, taken to the Palghar jungles, 1,500 kms away and set on fire.

The Indian Navy had issued a statement saying, Dubey who was leave from the unit-INS Agrani, was found with 90% burns on February 5 at Palghar. He was taken to INHS Aswini Mumbai, where doctors declared him dead on Saturday. The Palghar SP informed Dubey’s family following the receipt of informatio­n of a body in Gholwad jungles, police went there and brought it to Mumbai. He told the family 10 teams were formed to investigat­ed the case.
