MUMBAI: On Tuesday af ternoon, a fire broke out at the ground floor of a G+4 structure at Tere Gully, Versova.

The incident took place around 2:48pm, soon af ter which the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) deployed fire tankers on the spot. The fire was marked as Level 1 (L1) and the spot where the incident took place was close to the Versova Fish Market. Although there were no casualties, fire officials stated a number of shops were gutted in the incident. "There was no building nearby, which is why the fire couldn't spread to a large area and the damage was limited," said a fire brigade official.

The entire Andheri (West) area is heavily congested and the nearest fire station is at Irla, from where it takes a long time for the engines to reach the spot. A local fire station needs to be set up here immediately, as the lives of those residing nearby are at risk.
