Plastering Fractures
When you break your hand or leg, the doctor immediately puts the broken limb in plaster so that the broken edges of the bone are kept in proper alignment and the limb is kept immobilised. The plaster does not heal the fracture. Healing begins on its own within a few hours of the fracture. Fresh connective tissue cells form and multiply rapidly. Calcium accumulates in these cells which fill up the cracks in the bone by the third day. The doctors may prescribe calcium tablets to ensure adequate supply of calcium.
