12 booked for ordering social boycott of family

Police have registered an offence against at least 12 persons for allegedly ordering social boycott of a 23-year-old man and his family in

Ratnagiri district of Maharashtr­a after he married a woman belonging to his caste from his own hamlet, an official said on Thursday.

The man recently lodged a complaint at Devrukh police station in Ratnagiri''s Sangmeshwa­r tehsil, alleging humiliatio­n by the group of villagers, who opposed his marriage within the local fraternity, the official said."The complainan­t and the accused belong to the same caste (Scheduled Caste). He hails from Patgaon Bouddhawad­i at Devrukh.

MUMBAI: The Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) has summoned Armaan Jain, grandson of late Bollywood actor and director Raj Kapoor, in connection with its money laundering probe into the Tops Group case.

A senior ED officer, on Thursday, stated that Jain did not appear on Thursday and is likely to appear before the agency at a later date. The family is grieving after Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. Several members of the Kapoor family were seen arriving at the Kapoor residence. The agency has also conducted searches at Jain’s residence in this regard. The agency has not divulged details in the case. However, Jain's questionin­g is likely to be conducted based on the findings and questionin­g of Vihang Sarnaik, son of Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik.

A 22 year old man, received major burn injuries after a fire broke out at his residence, in Naupada area of Thane, on Thursday.

"The incident took place during afternoon hours, at the third floor of Samrat building, in Naupada, Thane. Following the screaming sound of the victim, his family members rushed to save him and trying to extinguish the fire," said fire official from Thane.

"Mohit Manohar Jaitpal, 22, has received 75 percent of burn injuries. He was doing painting work in his hall room, while his mother was busy in the kitchen and his brother in another room at their home, when the incident occurred," said TMC official. Jaitpal was first admitted to one of the private hospitals in Thane and has now shifted to National burns Centre, in Airoli, Navi Mumbai.
