Google CEO, 3 others off UP FIR hook

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

Google CEO Sundar Pichai and three of his colleagues have got reprieve in a case filed against them and 14 others at Bhelupur Police Station in Varanasi.

SSP Varanasi Amit Pathak told media persons that during the investigation the police did not find any material evidence against the four accused, including Sundar Picahai.

“We have, therefore, withdrawn their names from the FIR. The investigation against 14 others named in the FIR, however, will continue,” added the SSP.

Besides Pichai, the names of Google India (through India Representative), Google India Director Kenneth Hoi Wai and that of India Supervisor Sanjay Kumar Gupta were dropped from the FIR.

Sources claimed that though the FIR was lodged on February 6 it came into media spotlight on late Thursday night. The Varanasi district administration was in a tizzy after a call from a senior official from the state home department. They were asked to withdraw cases against Pichai and the other company officials; the powers that be also cited Pichai’s proximity to PM Modi and Google’s $ 10 billion investment fund for India.
