Guv & govt

- Arun Malankar

The long simmering ‘war’ between the gubernatorial office and the MVA government in Maharashtra appears to have taken a new turn, with the refusal of the government to sanction a plane for the governor’s travel to Dehradun. This reminds one of the second half of the 60s in West Bengal. The then Communist government of the state was always at loggerheads with the incumbents of the Raj Bhavan, who were appointed by the then Congress govt at the Centre. At the height of the friction, even the Speaker had jumped into the fray when the governor was reading his speech during his address to the Assembly. After some unruly scenes erupted on the floor of the House, a physical scuffle ensued, in which the governor lost his spectacles.
