The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) collected over Rs 1 crore as fine from citizens for not complying with safety rules like wearing masks in public places, maintaining social distancing, and spitting in public places since the outbreak of the pandemic. The civic body took these actions after the easing in lockdown under the Mission Begin Again.

The civic body had formed special teams at the ward level to take action against people who do not comply with the much-needed safety rules to prevent the spread of corona. A total of Rs 1,01,75,200 has been recovered so far from such actions.

While NMMC fined 23,188 people for not following the

Covid norms. Of the 23,188 people, 11,046 people were fined for not wearing masks and 1,125 for not maintaining social distance (mostly at shops) and 11,017 for not maintaining social distancing at other places.

Civic administration imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 for spitting in public places, Rs 500 for not wearing masks, Rs 200 for not maintaining social distancing and Rs 2,000 fine for shops if social distancing norm is violated at the shop premises.

The exit of Donald Trump from the White House has reportedly led Beijingbased ByteDance to walk away from a deal to sell its popular short video-sharing platform TikTok's US operations to a group led by Cloud major Oracle.

ByteDance lost interest in the deal after Joe Biden defeated Trump in the US presidential election, the South China Morning Post reported, citing an unnamed source.

However, this does not mean that the talks with the US government are over. ByteDance is now exploring a new structure for its operations in the US, said the source-based report.

The Trump administration had cited national security concerns to bring restrictions on TikTok's US operations.

Although the platform denied the allegations, an executive order from the administration required ByteDance to sell or spin off TikTok operations in the US, leading to talks with prospective buyers in the country.

In September last year, Cloud major Oracle and retail behemoth Walmart came together to save TikTok from the US ban, forming a new company called TikTok Global.

The deal got blessings from Trump, but the transaction did not materialise during his tenure.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the TikTok-Oracle deal has been shelved indefinitely, apparently at the behest of the new administration.
