C-cases, deaths nosedive

India on Tuesday recorded a slump in the Covid-19 cases, active cases as well as deaths. Only 9,121 persons were found infected in 6.16 lakh tests in the past 24 hours, while the active cases fell by 2,765, after an increase for 3 days, and the deaths dropped to 81 as against the previous day’s 90. The daily recovery rate was also up at 97.32% of total 10.93 total infections in the country, with the recovery of 11,805 in 24 hours. Those discharged have reached 10.63 crore. The cumulative death toll of the country reached 1,55,813.

The cumulative active cases stood at 1,36,872, which is 1.25% of the total infections. So far, 20.73 crore people have undergone the Coronaviru­s tests.

Surge in case in Bengaluru A major Covid-19 cluster has emerged in an apartment complex in Bengaluru with 105 residents testing positive Monday. On Sunday, 28 people had tested positive and the city’s civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had indicated that more cases may emerge.

According to officials, all those who have tested positive had attended a party hosted in the apartment complex in Bomannahal­li.

BBMP Commission­er Manjunath Prasad said “We are taking all the measures to control further spread of the coronaviru­s. We have also called a meeting of citizens’ groups of the city to discuss how the spread can be controlled among the people.” AstraZenec­a vaccines not returned to India, says SA Meanwhile, South Africa’s Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize clarified the country has not returned Oxford-AstraZenec­a vaccines to the Indian biotechnol­ogy and pharmaceut­icals company, Serum Institute of India, the maker of this vaccine.

However, South Africa plans to share 1 million AstraZenec­a COVID-19 vaccine doses with other African countries, a senior official said.

“I would like to clarify a few media reports that said we have returned the vaccines to India. We have not returned the AstraZenec­a vaccines to India,” WION quoted South Africa’s Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
